For those of you who haven't given up on me, I'll try and condense 2 = months as best I can. I again am sorry for the long delay between. It = just takes all I have for the day to sit down and do this. I think = about it everyday, then just can't face it. It just doesn't get any = easier and we just continue to miss him more and more each day. Some where back in October our friends Mike and Laura, made sure we were = able to attend the Blues home opener. Very emotional, but they thought = we needed to get back into it. They were probably right as we had 4 = tickets and took Dawson's hockey jersey with us to hang over the 4th = seat. You know he was with us. =20Had a very small Halloween party which Delayne enjoyed as did everyone = else. Not really what I wanted to do, but I got through it. Delayne = finished up her out door soccer with her team going 10-0. As you can = guess they finished in 1st place. She now is playing indoor for the = first time and loves it. She manages to get 2 or 3 goals each game. = Nice surprise for her also as Barret and his wife Jenny came to watch = her last outdoor game. When they first got there they asked what they = missed and I told them Delayne's first 2 goals. At that point they had = only been playing for 5 minutes. I believe she ended up with 4 that = game. It is great that they are still involved not only with Delayne = but our family as well. You don't find that too often. Once the ride = is over, most people just bail. It means so much to Delayne to still = have the Jackman's and the Ramages involved with her. =20Thought a trip to Florida would do us some good for 5 days the end of = October. Halloween being my favorite and my 40th birthday 2 days later = I had no desire to be here. We left Tuesday the 30th on what I was = hoping would be a trip for the three of us to reconnect a little. = Friends of my parents let us stay in their rental house, which is about = 1/2 mile from where my parents use to live. We are so grateful for = that. The trip didn't turn out as I hoped as John hates Florida and = wanted so bad to be home in his camouflage sitting in the woods, not = sitting in his swim trunks on the beach. Needless to say it was pretty = much a disaster. We did get to Busch Gardens our last day before = heading to the airport, which Delayne really enjoyed. And as before = loved to laugh at mom who is not a roller coaster lover. I told her the = only reason I went on all the ones last year at Disney was to be brave = for Dawson. You know he saw right through that and loved to give me = trouble.Delayne missed her first hockey game as we were in Florida, but they = one. That next weekend she had the game winning goal in her soccer game = and the next day the game winner in her hockey game. Her first ever = hockey game she played in. She was on a cloud. It has been such fun = watching her improve each time she gets out on the ice. You wouldn't = realize this is her first year playing. It's hard to watch as she so = reminds me of Dawson when he first started skating, of course without = the attitude. She is having a blast and doesn't back down to anyone. = So our weekends have been filled with soccer and hockey which keeps me = away from the house that I can't stand to be in. =20I have been working more these past few weeks usually 2 days a week, but = 3 last week and 3 days a week coming up before Christmas. It still is = very hard as I have had several patients as me how Dawson is doing. = That is the toughest to swallow and try to not break down. It's not the = first and won't be the last.My parents made it to town to spend the week before and Thanksgiving = with us. We had it at my brothers as his mother-in-law did the cooking = and invited us. We all went to the Kirkwood/Webster Turkey Day game and = only lasted till half time as the temperature was bitter cold. After = going back to Paul's to thaw out, we headed to see Dawson and put up a = Christmas tree for him with a John Deere stocking. Our friends and = Dawson buddy Evan met us over there as we all wrote messages to Dawson = on ornaments and hung them on the tree. Anyone is invited to go hang an = ornament as I have a bag full with a marker to write with hanging there. = Also new is a journal for any of you who may happen to stop by. We'd = like to know you were there. I know there are several that go and many = that can't. =20Saturday after Thanksgiving Delayne and I headed to the lake to meet = Paul, Gaye and the boys. John felt it was a waisted trip and chose to = stay home. It was nice to just get away even thought we had to be back = for Delayne's 12:30 soccer game. I raked part of the yard and burned a = lot of leaves. Delayne collected twigs for a fire in the fire place, as = we had no propane only 2 space heaters and a fire. That was all we = needed as the fire warmed the whole upstairs. We ate dinner over at = Paul's and then the boys came over for a fire, the Mizzou game and a = game of cards. I really enjoyed the short time we were there. Just = being away from home makes me happier.=20Last week, Dawson's dog Jackman ended up with an infection and a lump = the size of a large orange on his side. So needless to say he had = surgery and a drain put in. They said it looked like a dog bite. Can't = say it wasn't from one of the other dogs. Not what we really needed = right now was a vet bill. He gets the drain out Thursday and the = stitched the following Friday. What do you do?This has proven to be a very rough time for the family. John, Delayne = and myself. With the holidays and of course most of you know Dawson's = birthday is on Wednesday the 5th. I asked John to take off work, but he = won't so my friend Sherry is going to hang out with Delayne and I. It = is going to be a totally emotional heartbreaking day as we should be = having cake and ice-cream, not going to see him where he is buried. = WHY, WHY, WHY. I just keeping asking myself. Someday I'll know, but it = doesn't make it right now. I still wait everyday to hear from him or = see him. I know I'll be the last. I just wish I knew. I'm pretty sure = he's ok, and is waiting for us, but I just wish he would let me know. =20Delayne desperately wanted to get a Christmas tree as I told her I = wasn't putting anything up this year. I told her she and John could go = get one and put it up. Needless to say her and I went Sunday and she = picked out the one she wanted. It is just perfect and she will get to = decorate it anyway she wants. I so can't not have Christmas for her, = but I so don't have it in me to even begin to shop. It will never be = the same again. NEVER! =20Delayne and I went to the Blues game Saturday night Paul, Gaye, Parker = and Patrick. It was a lot of fun. Delayne was a little upset all day = Saturday as John got drawn for a managed deer hunt at Rockwood range and = was there all day till after dark. She wanted him to be at her hockey = practice that morning and was hoping he was going to go the game with us = that night. He was hunting for him and Dawson though which is ok. =20Delayne had her soccer banquet Sunday and she is so proud of her trophy. = She had a hockey game last night which didn't fair too well as they = lost, but she still played her heart out. She is just loving it. = Indoor soccer is going great as they are again undefeated this session = with 2 games to go. Don't think they have anything to worry about. She = is again signed up for next session for another 8 weeks. =20Life goes on, but for us doesn't get and easier. We continue to = struggle each and every minute of every day. John's sister Liz = continues to send a card every week which I look forward to just to make = me smile. Thanks LIz. I pray for all of you everyday that you never = have to go through anything like what we had to and still have to. = Thanks to all of you for your continued support and prayers. We need = all that we can get just in hopes of making it through. =20

Days continue to go by and it just doesn't get any easier. I worked a week ago Tuesday and wow. They all said I did good, but it was very tough. We again had a very busy weekend with Delayne which seems to be the only thing that keeps us going. Hockey at 6:00am Saturday morning and then to a soccer game at 10:15. Then after that she went to her Liberians house to ride horses. Mrs. Karl is letting her come over and ride when we can fit it into hers and Delaynes schedules.

We stopped by Paul and Gaye's after hockey and ended up taking to boys first to see Dawson and then to the soccer game. Paul and Gaye then came out to watch and take the boys back home.

Sunday again hockey at 8:30 and soccer game at 1:00.They did win both games and Delayne did score in both I just can't remember how many. After soccer we went over to some friends and grilled and hung out while the girls all played. It always helps being with our friends.

John again worked nights Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday and then went back on days Thursday and Friday. It was so nice having him back home at night. It was so hard and very lonely at night with him gone. I worked Thursday and it didn't start off too good. Mid day was ok but ended with emotions. I'll get there it's just going to take time. John and I went and ate lunch with Delayne on Wednesday and she really enjoyed that seeing as she hasn't seen much of John the past week so that was nice.

I struggled Tuesday and Wednesday as I just couldn't hold myself together. My mind just doesn't ever stop and I just keep thinking there had to be more I could of done for him. Every where we look there are memories and pictures of him so full of life. A life that should not of been cut so short. We miss him every second of every day. I wonder every morning how I am going to make it through the day. I was so thankful that John was home those days as he held me and just let me cry. I know his pain is just as great as mine. He finds comfort in being in our bed room and I just can't stand it and only go in if necessary. He did take the bed down and burn it and got rid of the mattress in hopes of getting me back in there, but it's not just the bed it's the room and I hope one day I can get past that, but for right now I know he understands. The couch or Delayne's bed are doing it for me right now. It's just hard not having him to hold at night. Monday Delayne was off school so we went to the zoo with our friends Sherry and Shelly and their girls. It was such a beautiful day. We were trying to occupy Sherry as 3 years ago Monday she lost her daughter in a car accident. She has been such great support to me and she is still dealing with her own loss. I feel so bad leaning on her. There is a reason we met and have become such good friends, I guess to support each other. I let her cry on my shoulder Monday although I was in tears just seeing her pain.Monday we got a call from Rob to see if we would like to watch Mattie (their black lab) as they would all be out of town. Of course we were excited to have her come to camp as she just loves the country and hanging out with Jackman,Cooper and Charlie. Cody just isn't up to speed these days as he has slowed down. Tuesday I got Delayne from school and went with Sherry, Caramia to get our nails done as I promised Delayne a little pampering. We then met Tamara to pick up Mattie. She is having the time of her life and I thought my dogs were spoiled. We love having her and have to send her back home this afternoon. It may just be a little quieter around here once she's gone. We will miss her though.

Tonight Delayne has hockey and then we are going to go to the Rodeo in Eureka. Then again hockey in the morning and tomorrow after noon going to some friends The Schmidt's farm for a Fall/Halloween gathering. It's always a good time and only about 20 minutes from the house. Sunday another soccer game and then we plan on heading to the lake in hopes of bringing the boat home for the winter. Hopefully the rain will hold off. We don't know when else we can get down there with Delayne's crazy schedule.

Delayne wants so bad to have a Halloween party. She was in tears one night as I told her I didn't have it in me. Too painful and the memories. Well that didn't last long as she started getting stuff out to decorate. I've struggle all week as I have been trying to put up stuff. I told her not everything was going up, but we could have a down scaled party. So as it looks the party is going to be on the 13th. I'm still not excited as everyone that knows me, knows that Halloween is it. Just doesn't really matter much to me right now. My little buddy that drove me around in the Jeep to hang decorations isn't here. Sounds crazy, but even the little things hurt so bad. I just have to keep telling myself I have to do this for Delayne no matter how hard it is on me. She is still here and it should be all about her now.

Sorry to have not been too good here for all of you that regularly check for up dates. It's hard every day and we miss him so much. The weekends seem to be better then during the week as we are running with Delayne. Two weekends ago we went from hockey at Kirkwood, had to pull her off the ice early in order to get her to her soccer game in Pacific. She had 3 goals in that game and again on Sunday went to soccer first, another 3 goal game and hockey practice Sunday night.

The week pretty much started and ended for me on Monday. As I got the mail on Monday, there was an envelope in there from the wunsch family foundation which is who took Dawson skiing in February. Inside it was a time capsule paper that he had filled out when he was up there and the idea is at the summer reunion in 2008, they bring all the kids back together again, they give them their time capsule papers back to see if things are still the same. He wrote his name, his age, it asked what's your favorite color and he put blue and anyone that knows Dawson knows his favorite color was orange, but for what ever reason that day it was blue. Asked favorite food, pineapple, favorite movie, Spiderman(not sure where that came from), favorite song you guessed it John Denver. What you want to be when you grow up he put a pilot. What you would like to accomplish by the 2008 reunion, his answer a pro hockey player. We all know that's what he is doing now. The favorite part of the trip was snow tubing and the one I couldn't get past and still tares me apart every time I think of it or look at it. It said who is your favorite hero and why? He must of really thought about this as he rewrote the question and then wrote "YOU ARE MY HERO DAD". He loved his daddy so much and wanted to be just like him. No actually he was just like him. I still remember waiting for his phone calls home each night he was so home sick and he always asked for me and he was is tears. It tore my heart apart that I couldn't be there to give him a hug, even though I knew he was ok and having fun. So needless to say I couldn't stop crying and for some strange reason John came home early that day and had no idea why I was so hysterical. I showed him the paper and he too was in tears. He just sat with me on the couch holding me and let me cry.

We some what pulled ourselves together as Delayne had soccer practice Monday night. It was by far one of the worst days. I know it isn't going to get any easier as we head into the holidays and his birthday.

Tuesday Delayne and I had a mental health day as we went apple picking with Dawson's friend Even and his brother and mom. That was all good and after dropping them off we went by the cemetery. John had told me someone had put a little deer statue over there and he didn't know where it came from. Of course I picked it up only to find that there was a message that said something like this, to our deer friend Dawson you will forever remain in our hearts. we miss you. I can't really remember what it said, but it just made me cry and another sad day. It was from our friends the Trunko's.

Wednesday Delayne got out of school at 1:00 so I was able to pick her up along with Dawson's little girl friend Katie and her brother. Hung out here and then had to get Katie to soccer by 5 and Delayne had soccer at 6. Went out for Mexican with them after.

On Thursday I had stopped by school to give Delayne her water she forgot only to find she was having a bad day. A girl had asked her that morning if her brother still went to school there. Of course she told her he had died and then she said that really made her sad. I went with her to talk to her principle just to let her know what had happened. Delayne was in tears and that's when I asked her if she wanted to talk to Ms. Jessica which was the grief counselor that had come in and talked to the classes. She said she would like that. They made arrangements for her to come to school and she got to talk to her on Friday. Didn't get a lot of information out of her, but I knew all in time she was going to crash. I know there is still more difficult times ahead.

Again another busy weekend. Saturday morning hockey was at 7:25 in Fenton and then back to Pacific for her soccer game. She was not her normal self and did not score. She looked very tired out there. This weekend will be worse as she has practice at 6:00am Saturday at Kirkwood. After her game we went to watch the balloon race in New Haven as a patient of mine races in that and we wanted to see his new balloon. We then dropped Delayne off at a birthday party at SKATERS in Union and John and I went and got something to eat and back to pick her up.

Sunday she was suppose to be at hockey practice from 12-1 at Kirkwood, but had a soccer game at 1 in Washington. Couldn't do both. She played an outstanding game an managed to put 4 in the net. She is quite the soccer star.

After soccer we went by the Trunko's for their last swim party of the year and then on to Kirkwood for the hockey picnic. It was all a good time.

John is working 2nd shift this week and will be working from 2:30-10:30. That going to be a big bummer. Soccer tonight and tomorrow I am going to attempt to try and work. I am so not ready for the emotional day that lies ahead. I have to go back some time so I am just going to take it slow. Let me see how tomorrow goes and we'll go from there. If only I could figure out a way to stay home and be here for Delayne before and after school. Really gives you a different outlook on what is important.

John has put together a curio cabint with all of Dawson memories. As he kept bringing things out from his room, I just cried and cried. It all looks great and it's all him. He surrounds us daily. Every where we look he is there. It's just so hard each and every day. We miss him so and only wish we could of done more for him. We love you Dawson.

Thanks for all the continued support from all our friends and family. You help get us through each day and each day it is a struggle.

No parent should ever have to go through this. The pain is unbearable and the loneliness and quiet just crushes my heart. I thought that going through this would bring our family closer together, but I guess it was just wishful thinking. At the time when we need each other the most, we couldn't be further apart. I don't sleep well, I cry a lot and I try to be strong for Delayne because she needs us. I pray each day that things will get better and we will find strength to get through this as a family.

We made it to the lake for the holiday and that was a very hard and difficult weekend. Even with family around, the tension was so high. The memories and one less cousin is just weird and not right. We had a lot of you know Dawson would of like that or remember when Dawson did this or that. You could just see him down on the dock with his bait caster (fishing pole) throwing out to land his next bass. One of the things he loved to do. We'd see a snake and where was snake eye Dawson with his 22? He never missed and had more thrill in skinning and gutting them besides scaring his mom.

I wish I knew the answer as to why God needs these little kids as angels. It's just not fair.

We have been keeping very busy with Delayne as she has picked up where her brother left off. She is now lacing up the skates and playing hockey. She is so excited and has such a great attitude. We were headed out the door for her first practice Friday night when she looked at me and asked me where Dawson's jersey was. I told her it was in his closet. She then preceded to tell me that if she wore his jersey, that maybe Dawson would help her learn how to hockey stop. I wasn't sure I could do it, but how could I say no to something that meant so much to her. So there she was out on the ice with all Dawson's equipment on and even his name still across the front of his helmet. That was a very tough step to taking walking in to that ice rink.

Delayne is also playing soccer so we spend Monday's and Wednesday's at the soccer field with games on the weekends. It gets a little tricky as the two over lap a few times. Needless to say we will some how manage. She had two games last weekend which they won both and in the second one she had 3 goals. She is quite the athlete and I have a feeling she will pick up hockey and do just fine.

My parents came here from the lake with us and spent the week. My dad painted and fixed some walls, now I need to get going on other rooms and projects. I'd just like to get out of here. I can't sleep in my bed and I hate even having to go into my bed room. It's just like he left it. His camouflage pillow, his shirt from Rob still hangs on our head board and now John has his bow and arrows there right beside him. My memory flashes every time I walk in there and all I keep thinking is what else could I have done and why couldn't I make things better for him. We have hit rock bottom and no one should ever have to go through this.

We continue to appreciate everyone's great fullness and thoughts and prayers. We can't get through this without the help of our family and friends. Thank You so much for caring.

What a tough week last week. We spent several hours at the funeral home Wednesday and back in the morning to be a part of the Barthelmass family. To the church and then the final resting spot for Skip right by Dawson. That was the second hardest thing we have ever had to do. Way too close, yet we were honored that they would want him close to Dawson and our family. We spent most of the weekend with my brothers family and my mom. Just having people around helps out so much. Delayne went to school Monday for we held her out the first couple days. School had a grievance counselor go in and talk to Dawson's class as well as Delayne's. We didn't want her to have to face all the questions that were being asked. She seemed to be doing ok, but had a very bad night Monday so Tuesday she was with me as we hung out with Parker and Patrick part of the day. John went back to work Tuesday and all I can say is I don't know how he is doing it. I struggle every minute of everyday and just have no energy. I guess I'm just getting by day by day. Also on Tuesday more emotions as I dropped my mom off at the airport to return to Texas. Right now it just seems like we are all alone. Delayne started soccer on Monday so that will help occupie some time and she got her uniform and was so excited she is #5. As I'm sure you can guess, Rob Ramage,Barret Jackman and Dawson was going to try and switch his number for hockey this year to #5. She couldn't wait to get home and call Rob. As Rob told her, he and Barret haven't scored a lot of goals, so she was going to have to change that.Yesterday I went in and watched Parker and Patrick and took them to the pool as they didn't start school until today. Another great distraction and then to soccer practice with John and Delayne.

Today was the first day by myself and it was tough even though it ended up to be only for a few short (which seemed like forever) hours. I cut all the grass as I didn't want to be in the house alone. Jumped in the shower very quickly and got a call from Delayne as she was worried about me and felt she needed to be with me. So I went and picked her up and my friend Sherry did my hair.

John is going to find out about becoming a helicopter pilot tonight so we're going to hang out with Sherry and Craig while he is gone.

We are having a very hard time. Decided to go to the lake for a few days as it was going to suck if we were home or we were there. Spent it with family and then on Sunday friends of our took us to spend the day and night at their place. Honey and Poppy were there to watch the dogs so we were surrounded by a lot of comfort. It's the times when things are quiet that are the hardest.

I got a call from my lil' brother Matt Barthelmass last night to inform me that Skip my other father had passed away. For those of you that don't know, he was the one that had every intersection blocked off with a cop for the percession. I just can't take anymore. We now will go same place to pay our respects to him and he will be burried by Dawson. I am so honored that he will be close.

Don't know how we continue to get thru each day as I just wish someone would come in and move me closer to my brother.

There is a great story on hockey buzz.com under Andy Strickland. Thanks Andy what a great story.

Thanks for all that have signed the guest book on the Post Dispatch obits. We have read each and everyone. Continue thanks for your support.

The next couple days will again be very challenging for us. Too close and too soon.

God Bless and many thanks!

WOW! That's all we can say. Thank You for everything. It's just unbelievable how many lives Dawson has touched. Thanks for all the support. We continue to struggle each day minute by minute. Still in a fog but so lucky to have family and friends with us or near by. So not looking forward to the quiet times that will soon approach as I fear that is when the bottom will fall out for all of us. So want to be closer to my roots and my brother as right now I'm just too far away. Thanks to you all that helped us celebrate Dawson's life. He is so very much missed and I struggle in hopes God gives us the strength to make it through this.

At 8:47 pm Dawson was taken from us and is now in a better place free of pain and able to do what he loves. The days ahead are going to be very hard as we so badly miss him. He had it all planned out and as I asked him if he wanted his sister he shook his head yes and John went to find her. It was then he took his last breath as I laid beside him because I told him I would never leave him.

Thanks for everyone's support and prayers. I so believed he was going to be the one that beat this nasty stuff. He is by far the toughest kid we know. We are going to miss him dearly as I know you all will to.

Things haven't changed much. Dawson is still sleeping most of the day and really is only getting up to go to the bathroom. Crazy thing yesterday, he wanted to go to Hawthorn in for lunch. Well by the time he did get up it was around 5 so my good friend Sherry and I took him for dinner and then John met us there. He ordered a grilled cheese and had one bite and 2 bites of bread and butter. It was ok as that is something he wanted to do and we made it happen. We came home to a lot of our friends and Dawson laid in the chair as he listened to us all talk.

Thank you to everyone for all the food and visits. For all your support and comfort. You all have made a difference.

We continue to pray each day for a miracle as Dawson continues to be tough and still fighting.

God Bless to all.

Things continue to go down hill for Dawson. He is in a whole lot of pain that we are trying to keep under control. We made our last trip to the hospital today for blood and platelets as that is just prolonging his pain. Hospice came yesterday to get started and make sure he is comfortable and in as little pain as possible. We continue to tell him that he is the toughest kid anyone has ever met and it is ok not to be so tough anymore. He is still fighting and wants' to do everything himself.

We just want him to not be in pain. It is very trying at this time and I thank everyone for all the prayers and support. The door is always open as we have had several people visit. He is not talking to anyone, but the support is very much appreciated.

We still continue to pray for a miracle. As we will fight this till the end.

God Bless to all!

Dawson is in a lot of pain and has had a very rough night. His little body is just tired and has fought with this nasty stuff for a long time. We are just trying to keep him as comfortable as possible. It's just not a fair thing and not easy to let go. We second guess ourselves to the point of making us sick. We have tried everything and done everything we could to make this little guy better. I think were near the end as I found out his body has tumor on both the right and left sides and wrapped around his spine. He is not making platelets as his bone marrow is packed with disease. That's all I know at this point.

God Bless to all and thanks for all the prayers!

I'm sure everyone is wondering how things are going and I apologize for not being better about updating this. We had a nice week at the lake 4th of July and from there things have gotten progressively worse.

Dawson did manage to put on his skates and skate for 15 minutes last Thursday, but pain in his heal brought him off the ice. He still looked like he was enjoying the fact that he got to skate, just not enough energy.

Last Wednesday he had a ride of a life time as he and John got to go for a ride in the St. Louis County Police helicopter. The coolest thing was they picked him up in our front yard. They flew all the way to the arch and back. He wasn't feeling too good that day, so he didn't enjoy it as much as we hoped. His little girlfriends mom has a friend Tracey that works for the department and she set the whole thing up. Thanks Tracey. The things people do for Dawson just brings tears to our eyes. =20

We managed to get to the lake last weekend and Dawson seemed to be having a good day Saturday. He ate swam and played many game of bowling on his cousins WII. Saturday night he complained his head hurt and he was having pain in his sides. Sunday he slept almost all day. Monday he continued to complain his stomach hurt and we were thinking he was constipated as he hadn't gone to the bathroom for several days and that he was dehydrated. Up most of the night with him rubbing his belly. Again Tuesday morning he woke with pain. They were scheduled to go to the hospital anyway for counts.

After finding out he needed blood and platelets they were taken over to get a ct scan. The results were not good as he has a large tumor growing on each side. He has been on pain medication since last night and finally slept through. Again woke with pain. Another pill and a treatment in the chamber. He is eating very little and not drinking enough. We are suppose to meet with the doctor tomorrow. I don't know that there is anything they can do at this point.

We are still not giving up as he is a fighter and will continue to fight. I just ordered some stuff on line that is holistic. Not cheep, but if I don't try I'll never know. I just continue to search for more remedies that may help him out.

John has arranged for him to go see his work and the pressed as you have to have a government clearance to get on base. That is Friday. I think he will really enjoy that as will Delayne and myself.

We are hoping to get to the lake if he is up to it. That is were he loves to be. We hope with this pain medication he will start feeling a little better.

We will be celebrating John's 45th birthday tomorrow as his sister Mary offered to bring out dinner so maybe that will perk Dawson up a bit.

I guess the bottom line is that it is really hard to update this web site as I watch my little guys health fall. I know you all understand, but you are the reason he has made it this far and I know everyone checks to see how things are going. Thanks for all your support and you can e-mail any time you would like. jpbutski4@hughes.net

God bless to all and please continue to keep Dawson in your prayers!

Another week has gone by and how time flies. Dawson enjoyed floating last Friday with his Aunt Pammy, Uncle Jeff and cousins Connor and Cole. He was a little quiet and slowing down a bit. Needless to say it was a beautiful day and he was a trooper.

Saturday we made a trip to see Dr. Eddie and Dawson was holding his adjustment just fine so home we came only to see the Texas clan off and they had to catch a 6:00 flight. It was a short trip, but a lot of fun was had by all.

Sunday we all went to Shady Beach and hung out at the river. Swam a little, fished a little got rained on a little, but all and all it was a relaxing day.

Tuesday we headed to the hospital and Dawson needed platelets. He is so done with that place. I keep telling him things will turn around and then he can be done, but for right now he has to get platelets. We can't afford for him to bump himself and bleed internal. We then made our way to see Dr. Eddie and he did adjust him. He has been having issues with his right leg and a little pain, but not enough to take any strong drugs.

Wednesday we met his Aunt Gaye and cousins Parker and Patrick at Six Flags. What a brutal day. It was so humid and hot. Dawson wasn't really up for it, but didn't want to miss out. I ended up piggy backing him most of the day, cause he wasn't going in a wheel chair and his not a baby so he wouldn't be caught dead in a stroller. Can't blame him. It was a good work out for me. We got rained on and the rides shut down a couple times when we were there. It pretty much was a wash out, but the few rides the kids did go on they had a great time. Six Flags just isn't the same as when I was growing up. I told my sister in law, next time you suggest this, just invite us to the country club to swim. I think the kids would of had a better time. Oh well it is what it is.

Thursday I worked and it was what I needed. A little break. John stayed home with Dawson and they ran around doing what ever. Still some pain in his leg, so you just do things a little slower.

Friday another trip to the hospital only to need red blood and platelets. Not a happy camper. I let John take him and experience what I go through every time.

Later that day, Dawson was able to have his first treatment in the hyperbaric chamber. A huge THANK YOU to the St. Louis Blues, Rob Ramage for all his involvement in helping get things done, Ray Borelli for taking time away from his family to help make this happen, Jerry Jasiek, Barret Jackman and all those who had a hand in helping us get closer to making Dawson better. You all are the greatest and with out you God only knows. We are so convinced this will turn things around and Dawson will be able to walk into the hospital one day cancer free. The doctors see an end in site which is something we can't and never will. Dawson or our family will never give up. He's a fighter and were behind him all the way.

We were suppose to leave for the lake last night for the week, but with all this happening, we feel the best thing is to get another treatment before we go and they have to be at least 24 hours a part. So after his treatment tonight we will leave and hopefully enjoy a nice week. He is going to have to go to the hospital down there for counts, and hopefully if need be only platelets. We like to think he's going to be all good.

Happy 4th to you all. If any one feels like e-mailing feel free. We love to hear for you.

God Bless and please continue to pray for Dawson. We love you all!

Last week was some what of a challenge as Dawson was not his normal self. Not eating much and sleeping a lot. Spent a few days with a fever off and on. Of course he still wanted to go to the lake so we made that happen. =20

Last Wednesday he needed platelets and we went to see Dr. Eddie for an adjustment. All went well there. Then Thursday Rob and his son John came out and picked him up, took him to lunch and back to The Ramages house for a swim and a lot of WII playing. That's what he wants now. Only to fine them. John picked him up after getting Honey to the airport for her return back to Texas. We then were packed up and headed to the lake Thursday night. John was able to get off Friday and Monday.

Things were tough for him and ourselves as we are not use to seeing Dawson down. He didn't do a lot. Just kind of hung out. Sunday he wanted to go see his friend Cory and was feeling pretty good until we got to their cove and then had a hot flash. We stayed a little while and went home where he ended up in bed sleeping for a while.

Upon waking up, we were heading out to dinner with Paul, Gaye, Parker and Patrick. At this point Dawson was feeling good. He managed to drive all of us to dinner on Uncle Pauls boat. He then managed to put away more food then he had I think all week.

Everything has been good ever since Sunday as he has an appetite and energy. Tuesday he went for counts and needed platelets and red blood. Of course you can guess how happy that made him. After we were done there we went to see Dr. Eddie and Dawson's adjustment is holding. So we will return back to him on Saturday.

Yesterday, Dawson got up and cut grass for a couple hours. He then went to look for fossils with our friends in their creek and came home with some treasures. He had a great day.

Today back to the hospital for counts as we are planning to go floating Friday. Aunt Pammy, Uncle Jeff, Connor and Cold should be landing from Texas around 9:00 this morning so I'm going to try and get these kids up and moving so were not at the hospital all day. Just a quick trip to find out everything is good and we will see them next week. That is what we are planning on.

Dawson continues to fight each day and it's great to see he is having more better days then bad. Please continue to keep him in your prayers as that is so important and means so much to us. God Bless to you all!

Hello everyone!

Dawson continues to remain stable with the exception of needing platelets here and there. Last week we spent doing all fun things. Went to Purina Farms, Grants Farm, and on Friday, John took off and we took the kids on their first float trip. What a gorgeous day and so peaceful. The 4 of us and Cooper and Jackman and the man up above. We all had a great time.

After floating we went on a hunt for Dawson's favorite nurse Bobby who was camping and floating the next day. And guess what we found him. Had a great time hanging out with him and his friends.

Saturday we journeyed over to our friends house,The Trunko's, for a day of swimming and grilling. Had a few showers, but nothing that stopped the kids from all the fun. It was nice to see a lot of our friends we haven't seen in a while. Where does the time go? Thanks to the Trunko's for a great day.

Sunday was spent at home for a change. Doesn't happen very often, but we took advantage of that and had two very special people come out and visit Dawson. Rob Ramage and Barret Jackman. They got to experience first hand being chauffeured around in the Jeep by an eight year old. I think I heard Rob say he needs to bring his son out for a lesson in driving a stick shift. Dawson rode his motorcycle for them and we even managed to grill and have a nice lunch. Dawson did beat up on Barret in X-BOX which proved to be a high light of the day for him. That was a very special day and one he will never forget. His "friends" (not hockey players) took time away form their families to once again touch his life in more ways then they know. As always we can't thank them enough. They are very special not only to Dawson, but our family.

After the boys left we jumped in the Jeep and took a ride over to The Trunko's farm. It is only 5 miles from our house. Made the most of such a beautiful day. We ended up bringing their daughter home with us for a sleep over with Delayne and then dropped the two of them off before we headed down to the hospital for counts.

John took off work and came with us so that was nice having him along. Surprise Dawson platelets were 13 so you know he wasn't a happy camper. He ended up breaking out in hives from head to toe. Got a benedryl in him and that's that.

Honey(my mom) flew in that day to help out for the week or two. John's sister helped by picking her up from the airport as we didn't expect the out break which caused us to be there a little longer then expected.

Ended up back home for an hour, then back to Fenton for Delayne's last soccer game. She even scored a goal. Yeah!

Tuesday I worked for the first time since I don't know when and what a struggle that was. It's just like being with my extended family. Having been there almost 14 years, everyone wants to know how Dawson is doing. So it is very emotional and I cried almost all day. I have such great support and understanding from Dr. Bond and Robin and all the other girls that have stepped in to help out and still allow me to keep my job and work when possible. I can't thank them enough.

John got Dawson to Dr. Eddie on Tuesday for an adjustment in hopes to get things to take a turn for the better. We continue to pray and believe this is the right thing for Dawson at this time.

Wednesday was another exciting day for Dawson. He was invited by Friends of Kids with Cancer to attend the Cardinal game. Before the game the kids(John and Delayne too) got to go down on the field and into the dugout and meet Tony Laruso and a few of the players. If that wasn't cool enough he and John then sat with Barret Jackman and his fiance 22 rows behind home plate. Again the big hearted Barret just made another memory Dawson will never forget. He is such an amazing person and he means so much to Dawson. That's his buddy.

Thursday along with Honey we went to Meramec Caverns and went through the cave. They really enjoyed that. We then had a picnic on a gravel bar by the river. Dawson was not feeling too good at that time so it was short lived. He just wanted to go home.

Skipped hockey and tennis Thursday night as he was down. Friday another trip to the hospital and you guessed it he needed platelets. He again was not a happy camper but the up side of things was he got to meet Kurt and Brenda Werner as they were there visiting the children. He of course didn't say a word. He did manage a little smile for a picture. =20

We got home and packed up as he wanted to go to the lake. Enjoyed a beautiful day Saturday and his friend Cory got to spend the night with him which really made him happy. We now are still sitting here on Sunday and watching the rain come down. Doesn't look like the sun will come out so we may head home earlier then usual.

For now please continue to pray for Dawson as he will be the miracle child.

Thanks for everyone's prayers and support. We are so lucky to have such wonderful family and friends. God Bless to all!

Again once I think I will be better at updating, things become more hectic. It has been a very rough couple of weeks. 3 or 4 or 5. I lost track.

After returning from Philly with the second batch of drugs, Dawson's platelets have never recovered. He was kicked out of the study in Philly which wasn't obviously working. He was rescanned here in St. Louis last week, and things were not pretty. The disease is back not only in his legs, but also his chest and arms. And as always the kid just keeps going.

We talked with the Doctor both here and in Philly and they thought the best thing was to start chemo here. That this chemo would obviously not cure him, but only buy him some time and allow him to continue to feel the way he does for as long as possible. Not an easy one to swallow for us or any parent. The chemo they want to do would have Dawson at the hospital 20 days a month. We are not convinced that this is the right thing he should be doing. He would obviously not be happy spending that much time there as he is far too active right now.

He was suppose to start that chemo yesterday and I just don't have a good feeling about it. I again talked to the Dr. in Philly and knowing how active Dawson is she agrees that he should not have to spend his summer back and forth to the hospital. She has come up with an alternative plan for him to be able to take oral chemo pills at home. She discussed that with the doctor here and we are suppose to meet with him tomorrow and discuss the other plan.

Both John and I are still really struggling with what is best for Dawson and we don't believe the answer is chemo. If the cancer doesn't kill him the chemo will. His little body has been through so much and for those of you that know him, you would never know there was anything wrong with him except when he lost his hair. In his head there is nothing wrong with him and we believe that is half the battle. This child is not sick and he is not ever going to give up along with us. We have been seeing Dr. Eddie and are more convinced each visit that this is where he needs to be. Getting the spine inline and getting the brain to send signals free of interference which will allow Dawson's body to function properly and heal itself with the help of God. It all makes too much sense to us. I know there are so many people out there that think we are totally crazy. =20

I hope that most people would not judge and just continue to pray that this is the right thing to do to heal Dawson. We all already know that chemo has not worked for this child and when it did it was a very temporally. We feel so strongly that we need to try something different and we hope you will all support us in this decision. We don't know if it right or wrong, but it can't hurt him it can only help him.

He continues to limit his sugar in take sticking with natural sugars and whole and organic foods. I have to say for an 8 year old, he is doing a great job and has not been too affected by the change. I read it everywhere that sugar feeds cancer, but have yet to meet an oncologist that will ever tell you that. We were told last week that it wouldn't make a difference and to not limit his diet. Of course that was by the oncologist. I so don't agree and he will continue as we all have to eat a much healthier diet. By no means is he 100% restricted and he does get to cheat. We have to remember he is only 8. Hard to believe sometimes.

He continues to play he spring hockey, when were not at the lake, and mows the grass almost daily. If it has a motor he is on it. Now to figure out how to strap those jet engines to he skates.

I took off this week for him to do chemo, but since we didn't start we are going to hang out and do a couple of fun things. Not sure what, but just to get to spend some happy quality time with the kids.

I know I say this every time, but I will once again try to be better about updating.

Please continue to keep Dawson in your prayers. It means so much to us and as always your support is greatly appreciated. God Bless to all!

We made the trip to Philly on Tuesday and arrived around 7:20. Grabbed a bite to eat and got to bed as we had to be at the hospital at 10 the next morning. Wednesday Dawson had to have blood test and we saw the Doctor around noon. All she said was wow he really looks good. I think he just amazes everyone.

We got the next 7 days of drugs, but he can't start taking them till his platelet count reaches 75. He was at 64 on Wednesday but they are coming up after the last treatment. John will take him on Monday for counts and they should be back up there so he can start. Just another day in our lives.

Still going strong! We are trying to get Dawson off sugar and so far he is really responding well to not getting any. He will read the label and tell us that he can't have things. We of course are trying to do the same and seem to be adjusting well. Delayne is just having a hard time trying to find something to drink besides water. Poor girl.

Delayne has a soccer game tonight at 8, then we are headed to the lake to enjoy the Mother's Day weekend. So all you mothers out there enjoy your day and enjoy every minute you can with your children. Life is too short to miss the special times you have with them. They are so very precious and you never know what may be around the corner. You can't love them enough!

God Bless and Happy Mother's Day to you!

Please keep Dawson in your prayers. It's you that is making a difference!

We continue to live each day one day at a time. Dawson is feeling great and going to school and playing hockey. And has enjoyed spending his weekends at the lake crappie fishing and being captain of the boat. The kid is amazing.

Upon returning from Philly, Lee Ann was up to her amazing ways and some how knows the right people. Dawson received his Kirkwood hockey jersey back only to be signed by the great one, Wayne Gretzky. He was so excited and it was great to see the joy in his eyes. We are going to try and get it framed.

We also want to say a big huge thank you to the Rockets Bantam B team for their generous support. It is so very much appreciated and will help with our travels back and forth to Philly. You all continue to amaze us. I hope that once Dawson wins the battle we will be able to give back to you all.

We once again leave for Philly on Tuesday and will return Wednesday. A short trip to pick up the next 7 days of medicine. We will then return back to Philly on the 20th and he will have his scans and bone marrow test again that week to see where things stand. As each day passes I'm sick to my stomach not knowing what is going on inside of him.

My brother Paul met a dr. at the baseball game who deals with kids with cancer. We have recently seen him and I have a lot of faith that he just may be our miracle. I told Paul that there was a reason their paths crossed. It was a message from God.

We are now on the path of cutting sugar out of Dawson's consumption and getting him on a healthier diet including a lot of natural and organic foods. Again what no oncologist would tell you is that sugar feeds cancer. With out sugar the cancer can't survive. We are taking baby steps to a healthier life style. We have to try everything at this point while he is "healthy" and feeling good.

On our last trip to Philly Dawson met a new friend named Robin. Robin is a golden retriever sheriff dog who specializes in human remains detection and man trailing and also drug detection. We have kept in touch with Robin and his owner Mary and the two of them come to Carbondale IL to train others. They will be there the next 2 weeks and have invited Dawson to come watch Robin in action. We are going to try and make it over there on the 18th as Dawson is really is excited about seeing them again.

Each day is a blessing with Dawson as he continues to fight his battle. And as always we can't do this with out all the love and support form all of you. Again THANK YOU!

God bless and please continue to keep Dawson in your prayers

Again it's been a while. Sorry. Dawson had scans the end of March and all looked good.

We enjoyed a nice Easter at the lake and on Good Friday got a call from the dr. in Philly and she was very impressed with his scan and bone marrow biopisy. Said it was one of the best results seen. We were then informed that we needed to be in Philly on the 16th to start a trial drug. Nothing like last minute again, but you do what you have to do.

Dawson started spring hockey and has really had a great time. So different from what he did last fall. He actually gets to play hockey with kids of his own level. Yeah!

We got things together and got my mom to come up and help out with Delayne(getting her to school in the morning and picking her up a couple days after school) Dawson and I caught a flight Sunday so we could be here in Philly Monday for a 9:00am appointment. He had to repeat all his scans over due to the fact they needed to be with in 2 weeks of starting this study drug. Monday was bone marrow and echo. Tuesday he had a CT scan and the injection for the MIBG scan, and Wednesday he had the MIBG scan and we finally got to meet with the Dr.

As a shock to us as well as the Dr.'s, Dawson's MIBG scan came back positive this time from 3 weeks ago. What a bomb to be dropped and again by our selves and no family around. It just can't be happening. This is the toughest kid I know and thank God because he is taking very good care of me. It's suppose to be the other way around. His options were to start the trial drug which the Dr. recomended or return to St. Louis and start a different type of chemo he hasn't seen. We opted for the first in hopes it will work and keep the disease under control. This is such an ugly disease and scares me so.

Dawson started the medication on Wednesday and will take it for 7 days. We will be returning to St. Louis on Friday and have to return to Philly on May 9, for a day visit and to get the next 7 days of medication. He has 14 days between each cycle. May 21 we again return to Philly to redo the scans. This will be a 3 day trip getting us home Wednesday. After the scans we will again meet with the Dr. and see if this medication has had any effect on the disease. Then the decision will be made to continue or it's time to try something different. Lets just pray this has an impact.

Needless to say this week has been very hard, not only on Dawson and I, but John Delayne and the rest of our famliy and friends. It just is so hard to believe. I just ask you to please continue to pray for Dawson. He is a very tough kid and he tells me he will beat this. I believe in his heart he has all the will. It has to be the stuborness he gets from his mother.

God Bless to all and thanks for all your support. We can't do it with out you!

Hello everyone. Spent last week at the lake. The kids and I and 4 dogs went down Monday, and John followed on Thursday. Got a lot of rain Monday & Tuesday as I tried to rake the thousands of leaves. What a chore and still lots to be burned. Doesn't work well when they are wet. Wednesday the kids and I went horse back riding and what a beautiful day. Dawson is dying to get back on a horse.

Thursday John arrived early afternoon so we had the pontoon boat gassed up and ready to go for crappie fishing. And can you guess who was driving. Captain Dawson! It was very windy and that proved to be the case for the rest of the weekend. We did pick up about 40 but we had to work for them. We pretty much just hung out and fished the rest of the weekend.

The kids went to school on Monday as I tried to catch up with laundry and house stuff. Tuesday Dawson had a big day. We got to the hospital at 9:30. He was to have his CT scan at 10:00 but got pushed back due to a trauma that had come in. He got in there about 10:40. We then had time to kill before his bone marrow aspirate so with that I left him in the Costa's center and went over to SLU to register him for his MIBG injection. While I was there, the nuclear med people said the MIBG passed quality control and he could get the injection now. So off I went to grab him from Glennon and hurried back over for the injection. Then back to Glennon for the bone marrow. They put him out when they do this. John met us down there for that. He did great with that so by 1:30 we were out of there. A great day it was and nice to be out early enough to enjoy it.

Wednesday we dropped Delayne off at school and headed down again for the MIBG scan. Got good news from them as they reported it was negative. We still have to wait for the doctors in Philly to go over it since they are more familiar with reading these. His CT scan was good and the bone marrow showed 10 cells that may or may not be still there. They are still using different stains to come to a better conclusion. They did say it was a drastic improvement. We should know more early next week from the Philly doctors. All and all it looks good. What a little bit of a stress reliever. It's not over as we will still need further treatment to keep the disease dormant or under control. That to will be something we will be discussing with the Philly doctors. One day at a time is all we can look at.

Dawson had spring evaluations on Wednesday and again tonight. He is playing spring hockey at Affton. He will be playing for John Bosch which is a friend that has been involved since the beginning. He is the one responsible along with Lee Ann for putting the Hockey for Hope together. He is also the coach of the Billikins who played in the benefit game against the Blues alumni. Dawson responds very well to him and we really think he will be able to help him out with his game. Dawson is really looking forward to him being his coach.

Thursday night Dawson and John had to privilege of going to the Blues game. They got to sit in the first row right next to the Blues bench. He was in heaven. Not to much into the game he was calling to see if I could see him on TV. You bet I could. During the game Barret Jackman gave him a couple of glances and winks. Must of been Dawson's being there that made him have such a great game. We'll just say so. After the game Barret and Doug Weight were two of the stars. They interviewed them on the ice and they then get a shirt to throw out to the crowd. We seeing as they both knew Dawson was there, Barret first tossed his over to Dawson and then Doug not knowing did the same thing. John said there were a lot of people looking wondering who this kid was. I tell you they have been so awesome to Dawson. The kid was gleaming. Gotta love it.

You all have been wonderful and all the prayers are being answered. Please don't stop now. Without you all we wouldn't be here. Dawson still has a road to travel and him and the family can't do it without all our family and friends. (Old, new, and some we have never met before) It's because of you we continue to get through each day. If I could give each and everyone of you a hug I would. So give yourself a hug and just know it's from me and our family.

God Bless and please keep Dawson in your prayers! Love you all!

Dawson was at the hospital twice this week. Monday he recieved red blood and Friday he was good to go needing nothing. His red's were up to 11 and his platelets have climbed to 33. Yeah! This hopefully means his stem cells are engrafting and doing what they are suppoes to be doing. We just continue to pray each day that things continue to go in the right direction.

Dawson played in a hockey tournament this weekend and had a great time. The team didn't fair so well, but they had a couple of close games. Dawson did score a goal and also got robbed by the cross bar. All and all, these kids are the one's that got caught up in the stupid mite development program. Had they had a house team like they had promised, these kids would of been able to play together all season and there would of been no stopping them. Unfortunatlly they only had 5-6 practices together. It is what it is and they played their hearts out.

We were suppose to head to Florida Friday, but John decided he didn't want to go so there for Dawson didn't want to go. John thought I should take the kids on a 12 hour road trip. That would really reduce the stress I am feeling right now. I just don't have it in me to deal with all the bickering that would go on the whole way. I guess I just figured it would be a nice break from what we are going through to get away from it all. John's response was, what do we have to get away from? I am more disapointed that he just couldn't do it for the family. Both the kids were looking forward to it and he let them down and also myself.

The skills competition Dawson competed in he won the shooting part. He now gets to compete at the Scottrade Center the first Friday in April. He is looking forward to that. He is always out on the driveway shooting the puck. What a long way he has come from when he use to tell us we couldn't make him play hockey. That it was child abuse. Now he can't stand to be away from the game.

Nothing else going on right now. Since we are suppoed to be in Florida we have a break from the hospital. Then of course the next week he will have scans and we will be there for a couple of long days.

Please keep praying and thanks for all your support. We love each and everyone of you. God Bless!

Lets see where I left off. Somewhere about a month ago. It continues to be crazy. Dawson had a great time on his trip and continues to tell stories about it. He now wants to get his own skis.

He played at the Scottrade center between the 1 and 2 periods of the Blues game the Tuesday he got back. He also got to go down to the locker room and see Barret Jackman to give him a thank you for the puppy.

We've been spending 2 days a week at the hospital for blood and platelets and he got his stem cells back Friday the 23rd. Had no problem with that so now it is a waiting game for them to engraft.

Thought the last week of February was going to be somewhat normal. The kids would be in school and I would get to work 4 days. How nice it was looking. That was until I got a call that my boss had a fight with a table saw and the saw won. So he was in the hospital and work was on hold. Tuesday night Dawson was helping with dinner when he decided to cut his finger. The blood was flowing. He cried he didn't want to go to the hospital for stiches. Can't blame the kid.He spends enough time there. We wrapped it good so the next morning we headed down. I got yelled at becaues he should of had stiches. Oh well. He ended up getting red blood, platelets and an antibiotic to cover him for infection. Rob Ramage came down to visit, but Dawson wasn't in the best of moods. He did a great job of trying to cheer Dawson up and we got to hear some funny stories about his playing days.

Friday we had to make a trip back down to have his finger checked. All was good. From there we stopped by Helen Fitzgerald's to drop off some donation items for the silent auction for St. Baldricks. We ended up staying till 9:30 helping. Dawson was a working fool. The nurses were amazed at how helpful he was. I think he really enjoyed helping. Saturday we arrived at Helen's around 12:15 to get settled in for the big event. What a day! Thanks to all of you who shaved your heads and joined Dawson's Hairless Heroes team. Dawson's team at last count raised over 12,000 for childhood cancer research. Those of you who missed out, well there is always next year. Mark your calendars. First Saturday in March. Also a big thank you to our friend Debi who designed the t-shirt. What a big help that was. Also want to say thank you to Tom and Linda Schattgen for printing and donating the shirts. Thanks to everyone who made the event and for all your support. We hope the research will get closer to finding cures for the children.

Dawson has been skating with a team that is to participate in the St.Pat's tournament at Chesterfield.

Next week he is scheduled to go to the hospital Monday and again on Friday. Other then that he is going to compete in a skills competition for hockey.

The kid still has an attitude and the stress level at our house is at an all time high. I'm not allowed to crash as I have to hold everyone and everything together. I ask God every day to just give me strength. With the help and support of everyone I will get through this.

Please say prayers for Dawson. He will be getting his next scans the 27 & 28. Then we will figure out which direction we are headed.

God Bless to you all!

Well let see, where did I leave you all? Dawson did well in Philly and we actually got home Saturday evening. Two days earlier then expected. They decided to give him platelets on Saturday and wouldn't you know it he had he first reaction. Head to toe covered in hives. Just figures when we were needing to catch a 4:00 flight. The Dr's and nurse were quick to give him benedryl and a steroid. We were kind of sweating and you know Dawson wanted to get home.

Needless to say, the hives went down and we were able to make the flight. Upon landing and waiting for our bag, we were greeted by John and Delayne and a Valentines Day present. They thought we needed a black lab puppy. We now have Cooper to go along with Cody and Charlie.

From the airport we headed down to the boat show. Something Dawson looks forward to every year. That didn't last long due to the fact we were carrying a puppy and got kicked out. Delayne and I went to the car and John took Dawson to look at all the hunting and fishing stuff which is what Dawson is all about.

Sunday morning we ventured to the rink so Dawson could play in his hockey game. Something else he was looking forward to which he didn't think he would make. He had quite the crowd there watching. Honey and Poppy, Gram and Gramp, Aunt Mary, his cousins Parker and Patrick and his buddy Rob Ramage even made it. He really enjoyed having a crowd.

Later that day our lives were about to change again. We went to Dream Night with the Blues which is put on by Dream Factory.(The group that sent Dawson to Florida in September) Dawson got to play games with some of his favorite Blues players and felt right at home with his buddy Barret Jackman. They had a live auction and had to Dream kids up on stage with the players. Wouldn't you know it the last auction item was a yellow lab puppy. You guessed it, Dawson soon became the owner of yet another puppy. Barret had motioned if it was ok, and what could we say? With his big heart Barret got the dog for Dawson, and the smile hasn't left his face. His name, none other then Jackman! Later that night Dawson laid by the cage and slept next to the crate where his new friend was. To see the glow on this child's face. Let me tell you, of all the athletes out there, hockey players are just different. They always have time for you no matter how big or small. Barret has been involved with Dawson almost from the beginning. The time he has taken to bring smiles to Dawsons face is just priceless. We can't thank him enough. To view the puppy you can log on to the blues web site,www.stlouisblues.com and look under Dream Night with the Blues.

Tuesday with the kids being off school, they came with me to work until John picked them up and headed to the hospital for Dawson to get platelets before he left to go on his skiing trip with Circle of Friends. After getting home, we got him packed and ready to head out the next morning. Dawson had to be at the Airport at 7 am to meet up with the other 3 kids going and nurse Marsha for Cardinal Glennon. He was very excited and had no problem leaving me. I was the one having a hard time.

Late last night he called and was a little upset. Not only is this his first time away from us, I think he was also very tired having started the day off so early. I just wanted to be able to give him a big hug. He will call again tonight and I hope thing will be a little better. They keep them so busy, he shouldn't have time to be missing us. We await his phone call later and can't wait to hear his voice.

As for the dog pound, everything is going well. We told Dawson we would take good care of Jackman. They are all getting along and I think Charlie thinks she is the puppy's mom. She doesn't let them out of her site.

All is going well. Dawson is feeling good and still 100 miles and hour. He will get his stem cells back in two weeks and then be re scanned again in 6 weeks. After that, they are trying to figure out what would be the best next thing for him.

Please continue to pray for Dawson as I know there is power in prayer. God Bless to you all and thanks for all your support.

Friday and Dawson is doing great. He's been a little quite yesterday and today until he got the catheter taken out. After that he has been all smiles. He got scanned around 3:00 and this morning his infusion # had dropped from 45 down to 13. It needs to be below 7 in order to get released. We are pretty confident that it will be there tomorrow morning as we went ahead and made arrangements to fly out of here tomorrow at 4:00. Sounds crazy, but we can't wait to get home. Boring, boring, boring. It's all worth it though.

We are trying to recruit any of you who would like to join our team and participate in the St. Baldrick's event that is held at Helen Fitzgerald on March 3. The event raises money for childhood cancer research. All you have to do is part with your hair. Log on to st.baldricks.org and search for the team DAWSON'S HAIRLESS HEROES. It's fun and it's for a great cause.

Have a great weekend and GOD BLESS!

Well, I guess I fell really far behind. Nothing going on in our lives for this excuse. Lets see, we received good news about Dawson's scan and the treatment in Philly reduced the amount of disease. Yeah! He received blood and platelets the past week and last Tuesday we found out we had to be in Philly Wednesday the 7th for another treatment. So need less to say it has been crazy. The kids both experienced the high fever virus that was going around and missed school all last week. They weren't too upset. Saturday Dawson's buddy Rob was able to round up some tickets for the Blues game from Bruce Affleck, so we got a treat and had dinner at the Ramages and then headed to the game to watch the Blues win. Sunday Dawson had hockey, Delayne had a birthday party at Build A Bear and then we headed home to watch the commercials for Super Bowl. Dawson headed to the hospital Monday for blood and platelets and then Tuesday we were off to Philly again. After missing the first flight, due to traffic we did get out about 1:45 and arrived here about 4:30. Stayed at the Ronald Mc Donald house before arriving here at the hospital Wednesday around 11:30. They once again pumped him with red blood and platelets to prepare him for today's infusion of MIBG. Right now he is currently being infused and then it is just a waiting game. Super boring and nothing to do. He just can't wait to get out and home. Imagine that. We have a flight for Monday and hoping to possible get out and home Sunday. We'll just have to wait and see. The plan is for him to get platelets at home Tuesday before he leaves for his ski trip Wednesday with Circle Of Friends. He is so looking forward to that and being away from his mom, dad and sister. I guess I'm the one that will have a problem with him being gone. We've never been away from him. I'll survive and hopefully will get to spend some quality time with Delayne. All is going well, please continue to keep Dawson in your prayers! GOD BLESS

Its' been a crazy week for all. Dawson got his injection for his MIBG scan on Tuesday and had a CT scan done following the injection. Wednesday we arrived at the hospital at 9:30 and he had the bone marrow aspiration, got platelets, and then had the MIBG scan around 2:00. The people in Nuclear Medicine just love Dawson and have a great time with him when he's there. You'd think he was the only patient in the building the way the push him around in the rolling chair in the hallway. They like to bowl at each other with him in the chair. It's just crazy how much they enjoy him and let him do what ever it is he wants.

Thursday we got some promising news. The MIBG scan showed significant reduction of disease with evidence of it still in the left illic wing.(left hip, back area) His bone marrow showed a reduction in the amount of disease also. We still haven't heard about the CT scan. We have to go down Monday for blood counts and again he will more then likely need platelets. I will hopefully get more information then and what lies ahead for the next course of treatment.

Dawson has been in school and is doing great. We continue to pray each day that things will continue to get better and better, as we all know he is a fighter.

He is supposed to go to the Bandits hockey game tonight with his dad and they are supposed to meet up with Rob Ramage and former Blues coach Kitchen. I guess we aren't invited.

He has hockey practice Saturday and a game Sunday. Don't know what else is going on this weekend.

Continue to pray for Dawson as things are looking better. He couldn't do it without the support for all of you. GOD BLESS!

He was in school the past couple of days and is doing great.

Friday we were surprised to find out not only did Dawson need platelets, but he also needed red blood. As you can imagine he was not the happy camper as he had things he wanted to do and they didn't include being at the hospital.

John took him and Delayne to the archery range on Thursday night and as usual they had a great time.

The weekend has been a little quiet for the most part. He had hockey practice today and when John and Dawson came home, John decided it was time to burn the far field. What ever. Needless to say, the fire department showed up and informed him that you need a permit to do that and it can only be done between 10-4. Whoops. It was under control, so they gave him a warning and left. Never a dull moment.

Well, the snow is falling and the kids can't wait to get out and play in it tomorrow. Dawson is supposed to have a hockey game at 9:30, but we'll see how the weather is. Otherwise I think we will be sledding all day and have a bon fire to warm up by.

This is going to be a busy week for Dawson and he begins with his CT scan on Tuesday, followed by a bone marrow aspiration, and MIBG scan on Wednesday and also a possibility for platelets and or blood.

Keep praying that he will have good results.

Stay safe and warm and GOD BLESS to you all!

I have been having trouble with updating the web site for some reason. I'm hoping this one works.

Dawson needed platelets on Friday. They were at 20 which is where they transfuse and being the weekend and knowing Dawson they wanted to make sure he would be up. This way we didn't have to worry about what he did as far as activities.

He had hockey Saturday and Sunday. Pretty much an uneventful weekend. The kids were really hoping all that rain would have been snow.

We spent Sunday afternoon at some friends of our watching football and staying for dinner. We then brought our two and their two home for a sleep over. Oh my when I saw their rooms this morning. They sure did have fun.

We dropped the kids off including Delayne and John and I took Dawson down for counts. He was OK this morning, but they want to see him back Thursday feeling he will more then likely need platelets. John says he can wait till Friday. He is going to call tomorrow and talk to them, since he wouldn't do it when we were there today. We need to do what's best for Dawson.

Anyway from there we caught the end of Patrick's hockey game and joined my brothers family for lunch to celebrate my sister-in-law Gaye's birthday. We had a really nice time. Back to pick up Delayne and home and try to get things together to start another week. Also the kids had a big project ahead of them to pick up their rooms. That should take them lets see, a long time.

Stay warm this week! God Bless All

Not sure the last got posted.

Dawson needed platelets on Friday. They were up from Monday which is a good thing, but just taking there time.

He had hockey today and was supposed to do a meat shoot at Gray Summit Archery, but it was canceled due to weather. He was really looking forward to that though.

Hockey in the morning and then who knows what we have planned. I guess it will all depend on the weather.

Hope you all are staying warm and have electricity.

Keep praying and God Bless

Monday we thought we were gonna be good and to our shock, Dawson needed platelets again. His count was lower then it had been on Friday. His white cells and red cells seem to be heading back up which is a good sign. The platelets are always the last to recover, so it's not really unexpected. It's just hard to figure out with him because he really doesn't show signs of being low in anything.

Dawson got his co2 tanks filled for his paint ball gun and now we have quite the colorful yard. He can't get away with anything now. You should see my wind chime. It is a nice hunters orange. Good thing it's my favorite color.

He's back in school Tue. Wed., Thursday, and Friday again down for counts. They are off school Friday so at least he won't be missing.

We did find out the at this point he will be rescaned on the 24th of course we don't hold our breath as things always change.

Not much else,

God Bless and please keep praying. We really appreciate all the support everyone has offered Dawson and our family.

I forgot to mention Dawson did skate with a few Blues players on Sunday at their practice/game. His buddy Barret Jackman was among them. That made Dawson happy and gave him someone to pick on. They all had a great time.

Dawson ended up needing platelets on Friday. We then went to his cousin Patrick's game that night and watched them loose to a GIRLS team.

Today Dawson had practice and skated hard. He had sweat dripping from him when he came off the ice. Yuck! Spent a little while trying to find co2 for his new paint ball gun he received from his honey and poppy for Christmas. After filling that, we had to get Delayne from a friends and there Dawson decided to decorate a few things pink as he tried out his new toy.

Not much else as of now.

Take care and God Bless

HAPPY 2007 to all!

Dawson and our family spent New Year's Eve at The Trunko's (close friends of ours) and had a wonderful evening. Got home late and we all slept in as we haven't stopped since before Christmas.

We met Larry and Shirley (angles that have just entered our lives as they heard about Dawson thru a guy John works with) for lunch New Year's Day. They lost a son at the age of 21 to cancer and have taken Dawson and our family under their wing with encouragement and support. Larry travels a lot and gave us an airline ticket to help with getting to and from Philly. You never hear about all the nice people in this world. Let me tell you, there are far more big hearted people out there as we have found out the hard way. We are so use to being the givers and it is very difficult to except all that people have to offer and have given and done for us. We could never thank you all enough. I can only hope someday we can return the favor to help someone else out.

Dawson's cousins came out that afternoon and shot the guns they all have. Under adult supervision of course. They stayed with us that night and the next day we dropped of the boys and Delayne as Dawson had to go for counts.

Turns out he did need red blood, but everything else was good. His very special friend Rob (Robby) Ramage came down and hung out with him for an hour and a half or so. Dawson so enjoys being with him. Kinda makes me feel like I'm not so important. They had a great time together as Rob kicked Dawson's butt in SKIP_BO, but I think Dawson got revenge in the tape ball game. Rob rebounded as he taught Dawson a new game called penny football only they played with a quarter.

He looked like he'd played it several times before as Dawson didn't have a chance. Dawson still had a great time and it was great to see two little kids at play. I don't know what it is, but there is just this special connection these two have. It's great to see Dawson so happy.

Wednesday what a morning. Trying to get back into a routine after being off. The kid was tired and didn't want anything to do with going to school. He got over it though and has had a good couple days at school. Friday he will miss, as you guessed it, off for counts. Maybe things will be good and he won't need anything.

He went to the archery range with his dad tonight to shoot he new bow and had a great time. As usual he just keeps going. Nothing slowing him down! Gotta love it.

Hockey this weekend and who knows what else.

Keep praying and thanks for all the support!

God Bless

How crazy things have been and I really fell behind to keep you all updated.

Where did I leave off? Dawson enjoyed a great birthday at Lee Ann's house as they gave him a hockey goal with a goalie shooter guy. He really enjoyed seeing all of his friends and hanging out. Again a surprise to him as Rob Ramage showed up to help him celebrate. Lee Ann did a great job with cooking and entertaining. Oh I forgot to mention Craig Merrifield did make some killer potatoes. Thanks Craig. Everyone seemed to enjoy the evening and we were so appreciative of everyones efforts to help Dawson and Delayne celebrate.

The week progressed and got more crazy as I'm sure you all were in the same boat. Trying to get last minute things pulled together for Christmas. On Friday Dawson returned to the hospital for counts and everything look good. He then met up with his cousins and friend Jake to go and skate at stick and puck at Kirkwood. His uncle Paul also joined the boys and he helped them work on their skills. It's always nice to have some instruction when you're out there. Dawson had a great time and wants to go again.

Later that day, Dawson, Parker, Patrick, and myself braved the parking garage at West County Mall. Oh my gosh! I hate malls and what was I thinking. I guess about Dawson! Once there, Dream Factory arranged for about 20 kids to go shopping with a Blues player. Dawson in he normal form was only going to go shopping with Barret Jackman. He knows him the best of everyone that showed up and feels comfortable. Poor Barret, he had his hands full with Dawson, but did a great job. Dallas Drake had requested to take Dawson, but being the stubborn child of mine, he only would make Dallas happy by getting his picture taken with him and Santa. Again everyone had a great time and thanks to the St. Louis Blues for taking time out to spend time with the children and making their Christmas extra special.

Saturday, Dawson had hockey practice and then his Honey and Poppy arrived from Texas. Later that night we all went and watched his cousin Patrick play hockey. What a great game. Dawson ended up spending the night with them and we picked him up Sunday morning for his game at Kirkwood. He actually played 2 games and his cousins got to ref. That was fun.

Christmas Eve was quiet for the most part, with the exception of the excitement of waiting for Santa to come. The kids didn't wake till about 7:30. That wasn't so bad. As they admired what Santa had left, they had to first eat breakfast before any gifts could be opened. We are so mean. Santa did a great job and I believe they got just about all they wanted with the exception of a John Deere tractor and a real horse.

We continued to Uncle Paul and Aunt gay's house for Christmas dinner. Great meal and had a great time.

Tuesday morning we picked up Dawson and Delayne from Paul's as they both spent the night. Headed down to the hospital for counts and found Dawson needed a shot of nulasta which helps the white cell to recover. They had dropped and his ANC was low, which are his infection fighting cell. This platelets were also dropping but not to where he needed a transfusion yet. But as always he just keeps going and going.

Aunt Pammy, Uncle Jeff, Connor, and Cole all arrived from Texas on Tuesday afternoon just right after we got home from the hospital. Tuesday night we enjoyed the Pence Christmas. What a great time we had. The kids always have a great time together.

Wednesday morning Dawson started the Northern Edge Hockey mini camp. He just loved the camp this summer and wanted to do this one. The staff is just wonderful and Craig the owner and head guy is just unbelievable with Dawson. Dawson just loves him.

Later that day Dawson was asked by Webster Hockey to come join the Rockets and their skate with Doug Weight. He was also told he could bring a few friends so he asked Bradley and Jake to come with him. That way he knew someone out there. I don't know if it made a difference or not, because Dawson just seemed to aggravate Doug and finally Doug just picked him up and carried him upside down around the rink. What a great guy. Also a big thank you to Webster in their jersey raffle. They raffled off a Wayne Gretzky autographed jersey and the donations were given to Dawson to help out with medical expenses. They all have such big hearts and we really appreciate all that they have done for Dawson and our family.

Wednesday night would end with a Pence Family cousin reunion. It was a great time and thanks to our cousin Jean that put it together. It was great to see everyone as it had been so long and everyone was able to see Dawson and see how well his is doing. Another late night.

Thursday morning yikes I had to go to work. Aunt Pammy and Uncle Jeff had the call to get Dawson to hockey. Kind of a crazy morning, but they got it all together and he skated. Thanks for the help.

The cousins spent the afternoon together and Honey, Poppy, Aunt Pammy and Uncle Jeff took all the kids to the arch. That was my kids first time up and from what I understand, they were a bit nervous. Sounded like they all had a great time though.

We all met at Duffy's Thursday night for the last big hurrah, as the Texans were heading back Friday morning. The time just goes too quickly when the whole family is together.

Again Friday morning was hockey. Dropped Delayne off with Aunt Gaye and Dawson headed to the hospital again for counts. As we expected, he needed platelets which didn't make him happy because he had things he needed to do at home. Ride his motorcycle, shoot the hockey puck. More important things then platelets. I tell you that kid. His white counts were higher which we like, but on Tuesday he will probably need red blood.

We arrived home 15 minutes before John's family started to arrive for the Ivanowski Christmas. I think at that point I was seriously crazy, but as always we got it together and had a great dinner and wonderful night with the family. All I ask was could I sleep in. I think I finally crashed.

Now refreshed we continue today. We have hockey at 12:15, which we blew off and friends are having an open house at 4:00.

Dawson is out riding with he dad and I'm trying to find the bottom of the laundry pile that got put on hold way back when.

Hope everyone had a great Christmas and all will ring in a Happy and healthy NEW YEAR!

The wait continues so please keep on praying and continue to know how much we appreciate all that everyone has done for Dawson and our family.

One thing I forgot to mention. Dawson received in the mail this very special metal from a very special friend.(A long time family friend). Our friend Stephen Kalfus just ran the Memphis !/2 marathon with Dawson. He had a shirt with Dawson's name and a hockey player embroidered on it. We had no idea and were completely shocked when we opened it. The things people do. I couldn't help but cry at such a great achivement he acclomlished in doing it all with Dawson in mind. Stephen, you're awsome. Thank you!

God Bless to all!

We are back from Philly and Dawson is doing great. We got some bad news the first day which was really hard with no support of a family member being with Dawson and myself.

The Dr. said that his disease has progressed and that the last three rounds of chemo he had here did nothing for him. We now continued to pray that the radioactive treatment he received up there works. For right now it is a waiting game as we won't know anything for the next 5-6 weeks. Then they will rescan him here and God willing it shows improvement and we will get to return to Philly to do the same treatment again.

Right now Dawson will have to go for counts twice a week and they don't expect his counts to fall for 4 weeks or so. It's not like chemo where you know 10 days later they bottom out.

The Dr. in Philly is amazed at how well Dawson is doing and looks. His c ounts were good going into this, so it's so hard to believe this kid is sick. She said she expects things will go well since his body has never seen radiation. That's in his favor along with the way he feels and acts.

We made it home Friday night and Saturday morning Dawson and John were off to J & W Cycles to pick up his new(used) motorcycle. Dear friends of ours (Craig and Carol) wanted to do something special for Dawson and bought him a Yamaha 125. I have not seen this child gleam from ear to ear ever like he is now.

We believe that Dawson is doing so well because he doesn't feel bad and therefor in his mind he isn't sick. What a great attitude to have and that is going to get him thru this.

Sunday morning we were up bright and early as he had a hockey game at 7:45. He looked a little sluggish, but then again he hadn't skated for 2 weeks. I do have to tell you he did score 4 goals though. His buddy Rob Ramage even made it to watch him which was even a bigger bonus. God love him and his support. That really made Dawsons day.

Dawson went to School Monday and I will pick him and Delayne up early today as we have to go to the hospital for counts. Then our dear friend and life coordinator (as if she doesn't have enough to do) Lee Ann Pitman has organized a birthday party at her house for Dawson and all his hockey buddies that have continued this nightmare journey with us and offered such tremendous support. He is so looking forward to this. Again we can't thank Lee Ann enough for everything she has done and is still doing.

Another bonus Dawson has to look forward to (again thanks to Lee Ann) is a shopping trip with a Blue's player on Friday. This is thru Dream Factory and originally we were to be in Philly and wouldn't make it, but since were back, she helped make it happen.

Keep praying and enjoy the holidays with your families. This is a very special time of year. Life is too short to hold grudges!

God Bless!

The Dr. said that his disease has progressed and that the last three rounds=20= of chemo he had here did nothing for him.  We now continued to pray tha= t the radioactive treatment he received up there works.  For right now=20= it is a waiting game as we won't know anything for the next 5-6 weeks. = Then they will rescan him here and God willing it shows improvement and we=20= will get to return to Philly to do the same treatment again.

Right now Dawson will have to go for counts twice a week and they don't expe= ct his counts to fall for 4 weeks or so.  It's not like chemo where you= know 10 days later they bottom out.

The Dr. in Philly is amazed at how well Dawson is doing and looks.  His= counts were good going into this, so it's so hard to believe this kid is si= ck.  She said she expects things will go well since his body has never=20= seen radiation.  That's in his favor along with the way he feels and ac= ts.

We made it home Friday night and Saturday morning Dawson and John were off t= o J & W Cycles to pick up his new(used) motorcycle.  Dear friends o= f ours (Craig and Carol) wanted to do something special for Dawson and bough= t him a Yamaha 125.  I
have not seen this child gleam from ear to ear ever like he is now.

We believe that Dawson is doing so well because he doesn't feel bad and ther= efor in his mind he isn't sick.  What a great attitude to have and that= is going to get him thru this.

Sunday morning we were up bright and early as he had a hockey game at 7:45.&= nbsp; He looked a little sluggish, but then again he hadn't skated for 2 wee= ks.  I do have to tell you he did score 4 goals though.  His buddy= Rob Ramage even made it to watch him which was even a bigger bonus.  G= od love him and his support.  That really made Dawsons day.

Dawson went to School Monday and I will pick him and Delayne up early today=20= as we have to go to the hospital for counts.  Then our dear friend and=20= life coordinator (as if she doesn't have enough to do) Lee Ann Pitman has or= ganized a birthday party at her house for Dawson and all his hockey buddies=20= that have continued this nightmare journey with us and offered such tremendo= us support.  He is so looking forward to this.  Again we can't tha= nk Lee Ann enough for everything she has done and is still doing.

Another bonus Dawson has to look forward to (again thanks to Lee Ann) is a s= hopping trip with a Blue's player on Friday.  This is thru Dream Factor= y and originally we were to be in Philly and wouldn't make it, but since wer= e back, she helped make it happen.

Keep praying and enjoy the holidays with your families.  This is a very= special time of year.  Life is too short to hold grudges!

God Bless!

Sorry, I am so bad. This has been a crazy week and is only getting more crazy.

Dawson played in his hockey game last Sunday night and played out of his mind. Don't know what got into the kid. It was fun to watch him though.

After no response from the Dr. last week I again called Monday and he finally returned my call. He told me the results from the MIBG scan showed the disease has progressed. We can't figure that out with his counts coming back quicker and his urine levels have dropped. Also to see this kid who just goes and goes. Still no signs or symptoms.

Tuesday was Dawson's birthday and he enjoyed it at the Blue's game sitting in the Weights World box. An added bonus was getting to see Brett Hull's number retired. That was the best part, after all the game was pretty pathetic. We visited the alumni box and Dawson was greeted by many of the players. His buddy Rob Ramage hung pretty close to him making sure he didn't miss anyone's autograph. I don't think he had much room left on his shirt for many more. Dawson has really taken to Rob and Rob has such a huge heart taking him under his wing. We just can't thank him enough.

Wednesday we went to the hospital for counts and everything was great. They did receive a call from Philly while we were still there only to find out they wanted and new CT scan and a bone marrow aspiration. Of course it was too late to do it on Wednesday, so Thursday morning we headed back down there. He did a great job and usual, but we haven't gotten any results from that yet.

I'm trying to get things together to leave for Philly tomorrow. There was a change of plans and we are now only going for a week. Since the scan showed progression, they don't want to give him the chemo with the MIBG. Cancer becomes smart to the chemo, so with just the MIBG, they try tricking the cancer. The next treatment may require the chemo with a repeat of the MIBG. We will find out a whole lot more on Monday.

John will be home with Delayne and as he's told a few people, they would be eating a lot of frozen pizzas. I hope he at least takes her out for her birthday on Tuesday. We are really going to miss spending her birthday with her.

I will try my best to keep you all updated. I'm really not very good at this. I just never seem to find the extra time.

Keep praying and God Bless to all.

Sorry I haven't updated you all this week. It's been a little crazy. Dawson got his scan on Wednesday and I called for results on Thursday and again on Friday, not to hear back from the doctor. I did get a call from one of the nurses on Friday and Dr. Ferguson said he hasn't had time to review the scan yet. He is supposed to look at it on Monday. I will let you all know when I find out. Yes, we are a little frustrated.

Trying to get things together before we leave for Philly, so this will be a very busy week. Dawsons birthday is Tuesday and we will be going to the Blues game thanks to H.I.S.K.I.D.S.. We get to sit in Weights World. Also being a bonus it is the night they will be retiring Brett Hulls Number. Dawson is really looking forward to that. He still keeps asking me when he gets to have his birthday party and I told him we would do something in January since we have no time between now and the end of the year. He seems to be OK with that.

In the mean time Delayne went ahead and had a little sleep over party on Friday night. Girls. They were up until 2:30 just giggling. And can you guess who was in the middle of it all? Dawson! Since Dawson and I will be in Philly for her birthday on the 12th we only thought it to be fair to let her have her special party.

I will let you know when I hear something until then God Bless and keep on praying!

Great weekend!

Dawson went to the hospital today and got counts and his injection for his MIBG scan he will have tomorrow. His counts came back and he needs platelets which he will get tomorrow after his scan. He spent the morning with me at work before his dad picked him up and was having a good time being an assistant to help me. God love him.

He came home from being down at Glennon and helped his dad cut some more wood to help keep us warm and cozy this winter.

We will let you know what we find out with his scan as soon as it is available.

Keep the prayers going and God Bless to all!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Yesterday we spent the day at the hospital. Dawson needed red blood cells and also platelets. This should hold him over thru the holiday weekend and hopefully till Tuesday. He will be going back on Tuesday again for counts and for the injection he needs for the MIBG scan he will have on Wednesday. Hopefully it makes it to St. Louis this time.

He woke up eager this morning to get his dad going on cutting wood for the fireplace. Just couldn't wait to get his chain saw going. I tell ya this kid is tough.

We will spent Thanksgiving at John's sister Mary's house with his family instead of making it to Texas this year. Since Dawson and I will be leaving for Philly on December 10th I really need the time here to try and get Christmas together.

Hope everyone enjoys there family, friends, and of course the turkey.

God Bless and health and happiness to all!

Dawson went to the hospital for counts today and surprise he didn't need any blood or platelets. We will return on Wednesday as they will once again do counts and feel he will need a red blood cells transfusion. They are not sure about the platelets, but if low enough they will probably go ahead and give him those also. That way it will get him thru the holiday weekend. So far everything is going well.

We would like to wish everyone a Very HAPPY THANKSGIVING! And we are very thankful for all of our family and friends that have supported us thru this nightmare. Continued Health and Happiness to you all!

Please continue to keep Dawson in your prayers and God Bless!

I forgot to mention Dawson had a special friend come visit him on Thursday. Rob Ramage (former St. Louis Blues player for those of you who don't know) came to the hospital and spent some time with Dawson. Rob has been a very big supporter to Dawson and our family and we really appreciate the time he took out of his busy schedule to make Dawson's day. They spent time together playing tape ball (as it was described to me) and I was told Dawson beat Rob. Sounds like Rob may need a lesson on how to beat a 7 year old. Ha, Ha!

They had a great time and we thank him.

God Bless!

Another week down and again a child with a lot of will and determination. Just breezed thru chemo again this week. Can't wait to get out and play hockey this weekend, but is also looking forward to spending time with his cousins as his parents join KYHA for trivia night at the rink.

His parents are just looking for a night out, not actually in favor of supporting Kirkwood hockey as they really screwed Dawson over since he is "sick" and did not evaluate him as they did everyone else. Funny how the evaluators knew who Dawson was since they were all just non partial. Politics I know there is none. Yeah right. Lets just let everyone know that Kirkwood hockey is just a bunch of politics and so very unfair no matter if a kid is healthy or sick. It is all in who you know. I hope anyone out there reading this would never recommend Kirkwood hockey to anyone.

Dawson is doing great and I hope those who really care continue to pray for him and his health.

God Bless to those!

Just to keep you updated, Dawson started chemo yesterday and did fine. Was there again today and once again uneventful.

He had hockey practice on Saturday and played 2 games again on Sunday. He looked a little tired during the second game, which might have to do with the fact that he spent the night with his cousin Patrick, who also in turn reefed his first game. We would like to thank the Black Hawks for asking him to fill in on their team.

Just trying to keep things as normal as possible. Keep you undated!

God Bless!

As our journey continues the next month and a half will be quite challenging. We finally got a road map on where we are headed and when, all with subject to change as you have noticed. It's really one day at a time.

Dawson will do a week of chemo starting Monday, followed by blood and platelets as needed the next week and then again is scheduled to have the injection for the scan on the 28th with the scan being on the 29th. We will then be leaving for Philly on the 10th of December to start treatment on the 11th. The plan is to have us home for Christmas. We can only pray that happens.

Delayne is disappointed we won't be here for her birthday, and Dawsons comment was "at least we will be here for my birthday." Another challenge to face on how to make Delaynes birthday special for her. I don't know that we will be able to fit our usual party in for the two of them.

Sounds crazy, but I guess I will be putting up Christmas decorations starting this weekend. After all I have to do it for the kids. They deserve to have a Christmas and presents under the tree. I will try hard to have it all together before we leave. I seem to work better under stress and you all know I don't have any of that in my life.

A busy weekend starting with Dream Factory taking Dawson shopping at Dillards Saturday, AM. He gets to shop for Christmas presents for his family. This sounds like a lot of fun. Then hockey Saturday afternoon and again on Sunday.

We will continue to keep you updated on things as we start treatment again on Monday.

Thanks to all and God Bless!

Well, this week didn't pan out what we had anticipated. The injection that Dawson was supposed to get on Tuesday was grounded in Chicago so we didn't have the scan that he was supposed to get on Wednesday. Another set back! Dawson did get platelates on Tuesday due to the fact the Dr. said he was too active and he would rather give him platelates if he was going to be play hockey. This way we didn't need to visit Cardinal Glennon the rest of the week.

He will be at school 4 days this week and we are so excited. Still going on and on, he will start chemo again on Monday for 5 days.

He is looking forward to hockey this weekend and being outdoors as usual.

Keep praying and thank you!

Last Thursday Dawson woke us in tears with his face swollen on the right side. What a scare to us. We were already going to the hospital for counts that morning so we had hoped to find out what was going on.

After some benedryl and liquid antibiotics, we found out his counts were low and he needed red blood and platelets. Later in the day they managed to fit him in for an ultra sound since the CT machine was down that day. Much to our relief he had developed an infection in his salivary gland.

We left the hospital with antibiotics and Tylenol 3 with coding and were instructed to keep him out of public places.

He stayed home from school Friday and the swelling had appeared to have gone down a little. He had very little pain that day. Saturday he went to hockey practice, came home, built a bon fire and enjoyed the out doors. The swelling was almost gone and he didn't take any Tylenol that day.

Sunday came and once again Dawson went out and played in his hockey game and then was asked to play in the game after that as they were short a player. He was excited and really had a good time.

Tuesday he will go to the hospital for counts and to get an injection for his MIBG scan he is to have on Wednesday. After the scan we should know more about the direction of treatment we are heading in. If we will do more chemo here or we will be leaving for Philly.

He's still like the energizer bunny! He keeps going and going and going. He is truly amazing and such a tough kid.

Please continuing to keep him in your prayers!

Last Th= ursday Dawson woke us in tears with his face swollen on the right side. = ; What a scare to us.  We were already going to the hospital for counts= that morning so we had hoped to find out what was going on.

After some benedryl and liquid antibiotics, we found out his counts were low= and he needed red blood and platelets.  Later in the day they managed=20= to fit him in for an ultra sound since the CT machine was down that day.&nbs= p; Much to our relief he had developed an infection in his salivary gland.
We left the hospital with antibiotics and Tylenol 3 with coding and were ins= tructed to keep him out of public places.

Today Dawson went to the hospital for counts and had to receive red blood cells. We will go again on Thursday and he will probably need both red cells and platelets. The keeps going and is looking forward to school tomorrow only because it is Halloween and they are having a party.

No luck for him hunting this weekend. Not sure where Mr. Big Buck was hiding. He will enjoy trick or treating with his cousions(Parker & Patrick) tomorrow night dressed as Captain Jack Sparrow. He can't wait to wear his wig due to the fact he has no hair right now.

Still trying to find out about further treatment in Philly. Will keep you posted.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN everyone!

Again another day and another day of a crazy kid. He had chemo and then with his dad went to Schaffers Hobby shop to spend his gift certificate he received from friends of kids with cancer. He came home with a remote control powered boat that we will now have to find water to run it ASAP.

You just look at this kid and there is always a sparkle in his eyes. He found out today that he wouldn't need platelets before the weekend, so we will wait to see what Monday has in store for possible blood and or platelets. Just chemo on Friday.

He is looking forward to killing the BIG BUCK first thing Saturday morning and then off to hockey. We are hoping to get to Kirkwood to skate in the public session after chemo tomorrow. That's what he wants to do. Continue to keep him in your thoughts and prayers. Love to all

Today we had chemo and Dawson wasn't being his normal crazy kid. A little sluggish at first but I think a little tired from the weekend. It didn't take long for him to come around and yell for all the nurses to come when he was beeping. The nurses just love when Dawson is there and really miss him most when he is not.

After his quick chemo treatment we had to go get the child new jeans due to the fact he just keeps getting taller and taller. So much for the chemo stunting his growth.

He is looking forward to going deer hunting this weekend, so with 2 more days of chemo ahead he just hates the fact of being there and not out in the woods scouting out his hunting spot.

He is doing great and we as parents are holding up alternating days at the hospital for treatment. God Bless too all!

Hello Everyone,

First I want to apologize for not getting right on the ball to update information on Dawson after our wonderful friend Brent Natzke took the time to set up this program for us. Thank You Brent.

We have such wonderful friends and I can't thank everyone enough for all that you have done for Dawson and our family.

We found out the end of August that Dawson had relapsed and I'm sure as to most it came much of a shock to us.

My life coordinator (Lee Ann Pitman) moved right in and began getting a trip set up for us to take the family to Disney thru DREAM FACTORY, a trip we were putting off till February. We spent 12 days doing all the theme parks and even spent a day swimming with the dolphins at Discovery Cove. What a wonderful time we had. We also made it to the beach for a few days where Dawson did some fishing off the peer and did catch 3 fish.

Reality set in when we got back only to find out that non of Dawsons records had been sent off to where we requested them to be sent. With finding out that, John left work and headed down to Cardinal Glennon to pick you his records and scans. With that we headed out to our wonderful friend and Dawsons favorite coach Craig Merrifields store to ship these out FedEx. (THANKS CRAIG!)

That Monday morning we found out that we needed to be in Philadelphia, by Wednesday at 10, for a consultation for a different kind of treatment they have to offer there. Again we were off. There and back in less then 24 hours and thanks to all the wonderful help of my brother and sister in-law (Paul and Gaye Pence) they made all the flight arrangements and provided us transportation to and from the airport.

We received a lot of information from there and will be traveling back for treatment at a later date.

Dawson started chemo here the first week of October and did well as usual. The kid is 100 miles an hour. The next week he required platelets on Monday and then again on Thursday he received red blood and platelets. Made it thru the weekend still skating and playing hockey. Monday we went again for blood and platelets and by Thursday we received counts and didn't have to stay for anything. YEAH!

We had our annual Halloween Party over the weekend and returned to the hospital again Monday morning October 23 to start his next round of chemo. It is all out patient so he is able to come home and use his new chain saw, yes his own, and he also likes to take us for rides in the jeep which he has now mastered driving using the clutch and shifting.

He once again is loosing his hair and that is a very hard thing for me to accept. Last night he asked me to help him shave his head and between tears I managed to get thru it. If you could see him, it's so hard to believe it's true. This is an unbelievable kid.

He is an eager child with a lot of drive and once again will lick this major set back in his life. We all know how tough he is!

We appreciate all the thoughts and prayers you have provided us. Please continue to keep him in your prayers. That means to much and is so important.

I promise I will try to up date more often. As I'm sure you all know we are trying to juggle work and taking him to the hospital, so I have not been so good with this. I will try harder.

Until later,

God Bless
